Information About Acticin

Chemical Name: PERMETHRIN (per-METH-rin)

Common uses
Acticin is a scabicide used to treat scabies. It works by killing the tiny insects (mites) that cause scabies. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your physician.

Prior to Use
Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. Inform your physician of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy or breast-feeding.

Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Acticin. Massage Acticin into the skin from your head to the soles of your feet. For some patients, your physician may also ask you to treat your scalp, temples, and forehead. Bathe or shower after 8 to 14 hours to remove Acticin. It is best to keep Acticin away from heat and light, at room temperature. Keep the container tightly closed.

Warnings
Avoid getting Acticin in your eyes or on the inside of your nose and mouth. If it gets in your eyes, flush with water immediately. Contact your physician if living mites are found after 14 days. Women, it is unknown if Acticin is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while using Acticin.

Potential Side Effects
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include itching, mild burning or stinging, swelling, or redness. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. If you notice any other effects, contact your physician, nurse, or pharmacist.

Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.

In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed. Acticin may be harmful if swallowed. Indications of an overdose are dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, weakness, seizures, and loss of consciousness.

Additional information
Itching may continue for up to 14 days due to sensitivity to mites. This does not indicate treatment failure. Contact your physician before using Acticin again. Do not let anyone else use Acticin. Do not take Acticin to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children.
