Common uses
Adalat Cc is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure. Some brands are also used to control angina (chest pain). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your physician.

Prior to Use
Be aware that pre-existing medical conditions, or taking additional medications could interfere with the effectiveness of this one. Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. If you are taking any of the following, your dose or condition may need regular supervision: cimetidine or intravenous (IV) calcium. Inform your physician of any other medical conditions including narrowing of the intestines (stricture), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. You should not take Adalat Cc if you have a history of low blood pressure. If you have questions or concerns about Adalat Cc, be sure to let your physician or pharmacist know.

Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Adalat Cc. Swallow whole Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. Check with your pharmacist to see if your brand may be taken with food. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking Adalat Cc. It is best to keep Adalat Cc away from heat and light, at room temperature. Should you skip or forget a dose of Adalat Cc, begin using it immediately. If it is almost time for your next dose, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule. Never take more than one dose at the same time.

Warnings
Do not stop taking Adalat Cc without checking with your physician. Adalat Cc may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Adalat Cc. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, consult your pharmacist or physician . While you are using Adalat Cc, carefully brush and floss your teeth to reduce swelling and tenderness of your gums. Women, if you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your physician the benefits and risks of using Adalat Cc during pregnancy.

Potential Side Effects
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, weakness, constipation, flushing, nausea, or heartburn. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. With some brands of Adalat Cc, inactive parts of the drug may be passed in your stool as a harmless soft mass that may look like the original tablet. This is normal for this drug. Consult your physician immediately if you experience tender, bleeding, or swollen gums; irregular pulse; shortness of breath; or swelling of the feet or hands. Let your physician, pharmacist, or nurse know if you experience any side-effects not listed here.

Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.

In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed. Indications of an overdose are rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat; dizziness; fainting; and loss of consciousness.

Do not let anyone else use Adalat Cc. Do not take Adalat Cc to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children. If using Adalat Cc for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
