Common uses
Adipex-P is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity.

Prior to Use
Be aware that pre-existing medical conditions, or taking additional medications could interfere with the effectiveness of this one. Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. Do not use Adipex-P if you are also taking guanadrel, guanethidine, furazolidone, fenfluramine, dexfenfluramine, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Inform your physician of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. You should not take Adipex-P if you have a history of heart conditions, brain or spinal cord disorders, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, glaucoma, or hyperthyroidism. Contact your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Adipex-P.

Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Adipex-P. Take Adipex-P about 30 minutes before a meal. Take your last dose of the day at least 4 to 6 hours before bedtime. If you are taking Adipex-P 1 time a day, take your dose in the morning. Store Adipex-P at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Should you skip or forget a dose of Adipex-P, begin using it immediately. If it is after noon and you are taking Adipex-P 1 time a day or after 4 pm and you are taking it more than 1 time a day, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule. Never take more than one dose at the same time.

Warnings
Do not exceed the recommended dose or take Adipex-P for longer than prescribed without checking with your physician. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking Adipex-P for longer than prescribed may cause serious side effects. Keep all physician and laboratory appointments while you are using Adipex-P. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, consult your pharmacist or physician . Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Adipex-P. Before you have any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the physician or dentist that you are using Adipex-P. Women, if you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your physician the benefits and risks of using Adipex-P during pregnancy. The effects of Adipex-P on breast milk is not known. You should not breast-feed if you are using Adipex-P.

Potential Side Effects
Side effects you may experience while using Adipex-P include restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, or dry mouth. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. Let your physician, pharmacist, or nurse know if you experience any side-effects not listed here.

Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.

In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed. Indications of an overdose are restlessness, tremor, rapid breathing, confusion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.

Do not let anyone else use Adipex-P. Do not take Adipex-P to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children.
