Common uses
Adoxa is a tetracycline antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. Adoxa is not effective treating infections caused by viruses.
Prior to Use
Be aware that pre-existing medical conditions, or taking additional medications could interfere with the
effectiveness of this one. Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. If you are taking any of the following, your dose or condition may need regular supervision: vitamins/minerals (e.g., magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, zinc), quinapril, didanosine, antacids, sucralfate, bismuth subsalicylate, anticoagulants, barbiturates, birth control pills, methotrexate, penicillin antibiotics, or medicine for seizures. Inform your physician of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. If you have questions or concerns about Adoxa, be sure to let your physician or pharmacist know. Use of Adoxa in children under 8 years old is not recommended. Please talk with your physician about risks and benefits before giving Adoxa to your child.
Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Adoxa. Adoxa may be taken with food if it upsets your stomach. Take Adoxa with a full glass (8 oz./240 ml) of water. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Adoxa. Do not use medicines containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium, bismuth subsalicylate, sucralfate, or iron within 1 to 2 hours before or 2 to 3 hours after taking Adoxa. Some examples include antacids, iron supplements, vitamins/minerals, quinapril, and didanosine. It is best to keep Adoxa away from heat and light, at room temperature. In order to completely clear up your infection, continue taking Adoxa for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. Make sure that you do not skip a dose of Adoxa. Should you skip or forget a dose of Adoxa, begin using it immediately. If it is almost time for your next dose, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule. Never take more than one dose at the same time.
Warnings
Do not use Adoxa if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. If your symptoms do not improve within a few days and consult your physician if they worsen. Adoxa may cause increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun or sunlamps until you know how you react to Adoxa. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. If you experience difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your physician immediately. Do not use any more doses of Adoxa unless your physician tells you to do so. Use of Adoxa in children may cause permanent discoloring of the teeth. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your physician. This includes any medicines that contain bismuth. Women, taking Adoxa while you are using birth control pills may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills. Use an additional form of birth control while you are taking Adoxa. Adoxa has been shown to cause harm to the human fetus. If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your physician the benefits and risks of using Adoxa during pregnancy. Adoxa is excreted in breast milk do not breast-feed while taking Adoxa.
Potential Side Effects
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. Consult your physician immediately if you experience vaginal irritation or discharge, headache and/or blurred vision, stomach pain, or a severe skin reaction to the sun. Let your physician, pharmacist, or nurse know if you experience any side-effects not listed here.

Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.
In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed.
Additional information
Do not let anyone else use Adoxa. Do not take Adoxa to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children.
