Chemical Name: ERYTHROMYCIN (eh-rith-roe-MYE-sin)

Common uses
Akne-Mycin is an antibiotic used to treat skin infections.

Prior to Use
Be aware that pre-existing medical conditions, or taking additional medications could interfere with the effectiveness of this one. Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. Do not use Akne-Mycin if you are also taking astemizole or terfenadine. Inform your physician of any other medical conditions or allergies. Contact your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Akne-Mycin.

Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Akne-Mycin. Before using Akne-Mycin wash the affected area with warm water and soap, rinse, and pat dry. TO USE THIS MEDICINE: moisten a pad or use your fingertips to apply the medicine. Cover the affected and surrounding areas with a thin film of medicine. Wash your hands after you finish using Akne-Mycin. Store Akne-Mycin at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Should you skip or forget a dose of Akne-Mycin, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule.

Warnings
Do not get Akne-Mycin in your eyes or on the inside of your nose or mouth. If you get Akne-Mycin in your eyes, immediately rinse them out with cool tap water. Women, it is unknown if Akne-Mycin is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Akne-Mycin, consult your pharmacist or physician to discuss the risks to your baby.

Potential Side Effects
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include redness or peeling. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. Let your physician, pharmacist, or nurse know if you experience any side-effects not listed here.

Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.

In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed. Akne-Mycin may be harmful if swallowed.

Additional information
If your symptoms do not improve within 12 weeks and consult your physician if they worsen. Do not let anyone else use Akne-Mycin. Do not take Akne-Mycin to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children. If using Akne-Mycin for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
