Common uses
Allerx-D is a decongestant and anticholinergic combination used to relieve congestion, sneezing, and watery eyes due to colds, flu, or hay fever. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your physician.
Prior to Use
Be aware that pre-existing medical conditions, or taking additional medications could interfere with the
effectiveness of this one. Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. If you are taking any of the following, do not use Allerx-D: furazolidone, linezolid, sildenafil, or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). If you are taking any of the following, your dose or condition may need regular supervision: beta-blockers, bromocriptine, guanadrel, guanethidine, haloperidol, or medicine to alkalinize the urine. Inform your physician of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. You should not take Allerx-D if you have a history of stomach ulcers, difficulty urinating, narrow angle glaucoma, or are experiencing an asthmatic attack. Additional monitoring of your dose or condition may be needed if you have angina, diabetes, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, open angle glaucoma, or prostate disorder. If you have questions or concerns about Allerx-D, be sure to let your physician or pharmacist know.
Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Allerx-D. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Swallow whole Do not crush or chew before swallowing. It is best to keep Allerx-D away from heat and light, at room temperature. If you miss a dose of Allerx-D and you are using it regularly, begin using it immediately. If it is almost time for your next dose, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule. Never take more than one dose at the same time.
Warnings
Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Allerx-D. Using Allerx-D alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Allerx-D will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants. Do not become overheated in hot weather or during exercise or other activities since heat stroke may occur while you are using Allerx-D. Allerx-D may cause your eyes to become more sensitive to sunlight. Wearing sunglasses may help. If you have trouble sleeping, ask your pharmacist or physician about the best time to take Allerx-D. Do not use diet or appetite control medicines while you are taking Allerx-D without checking with your physician. Before you begin taking any new medicines, either prescription or over-the-counter, consult your pharmacist or physician . Women, if you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your physician the benefits and risks of using Allerx-D during pregnancy. Allerx-D is excreted in breast milk do not breast-feed while taking Allerx-D.
Potential Side Effects
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include nervousness, dizziness, trouble sleeping, drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, nausea, constipation, or headache. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. Consult your physician immediately if you experience difficulty focusing your eyes, difficulty urinating, rapid heart rate, vomiting, or seizures. Let your physician, pharmacist, or nurse know if you experience any side-effects not listed here.
Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.
In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed. Indications of an overdose are vomiting, irregular heartbeat, seizures, large pupils, hot dry skin, or difficulty breathing.
Additional information
If your symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if you develop a high fever or persistent headache, check with your physician. Do not let anyone else use Allerx-D. Do not take Allerx-D to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children.
