Chemical Name: CHLORPHENIRAMINE (klor-fen-EER-a-meen), phenylpropanolamine (fen-ill-proe-pa-NOLE-a-meen), and ACETAMINOPHEN (a-seat-a-MIN-oh-fen)

Common uses
Alumadrine is an antihistamine, decongestant, and analgesic combination used to relieve congestion, sneezing, watery eyes, and pain due to colds, flu, or hay fever. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your physician.

Prior to Use
Be aware that pre-existing medical conditions, or taking additional medications could interfere with the effectiveness of this one. Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. If you are taking any of the following, do not use Alumadrine: furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). If you are taking any of the following, your dose or condition may need regular supervision: anticoagulants, isoniazid, bromocriptine, guanadrel, guanethidine, or medicine for high blood pressure or heart conditions (beta blockers). Inform your physician of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. You should not take Alumadrine if you have a history of high blood pressure or heart conditions. Contact your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Alumadrine.

Instructions for Use
Use Alumadrine exactly as directed by your physician or on the package. Alumadrine may be taken with food if it upsets your stomach. Store Alumadrine at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. If you miss a dose of Alumadrine and you are using it regularly, begin using it immediately. If it is almost time for your next dose, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule. Never take more than one dose at the same time.

Warnings
Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Alumadrine. Using Alumadrine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Do not use diet or appetite control medicines while you are taking Alumadrine without checking with your physician. If you have trouble sleeping, ask your pharmacist or physician about the best time to take Alumadrine. Alumadrine contains acetaminophen Do not use additional acetaminophen for pain or fever without checking with your physician or pharmacist. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines contain acetaminophen. Alcohol If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your physician whether you should take acetaminophen or other pain relievers/fever reducers. Acetaminophen may cause liver damage. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, consult your pharmacist or physician . This product contains phenylpropanolamine (PPA). Therefore, promptly consult your pharmacist, since the FDA has recently given warnings regarding PPA side effects.

Potential Side Effects
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include nervousness; dizziness; trouble sleeping; drowsiness; dry mouth, throat, or nose; nausea; stomach upset; or headache. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. An allergic reaction to Alumadrine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. Let your physician, pharmacist, or nurse know if you experience any side-effects not listed here.

Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.

In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed. Indications of an overdose are restlessness, drowsiness, dizziness, vomiting, excessive sweating, dark urine, stomach pain, extreme fatigue, unusually fast or slow heartbeat or breathing, tremor, confusion, hallucinations, and loss of consciousness.

Additional information
If your symptoms do not improve within 7 days, or if you develop a high fever or persistent cough, check with your physician. Do not let anyone else use Alumadrine. Do not take Alumadrine to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children.
