Americaine Otic is a topical anesthetic and analgesic used to relieve the pain and itching associated with ear infections.
Prior to Use
Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. Inform your physician of any other medical conditions or allergies.
Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Americaine Otic. To use ear drops, lie down or tilt your head so that the affected ear faces up. For adults, gently pull the earlobe up and back to straighten the ear canal. For children, gently pull the earlobe down and back to straighten the ear canal. Place the proper number of drops into the ear canal. Make sure that the dropper does not touch or enter the ear canal. Keep the ear facing up for several minutes so the medicine can run to the bottom of the ear canal. If you have difficulty keeping the medicine in your ear, ask your physician about using a clean cotton plug in your ear. Do not rinse the dropper with water after use. Do not use at the same time as other ear drops. If another ear drop medicine is used, use it at separate times. It is best to keep Americaine Otic away from heat and light, at room temperature. Keep the container tightly closed. If you miss a dose of Americaine Otic and you are using it regularly, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
Warnings
Americaine Otic will not cure an ear infection. It only relieves the symptoms. Contact your physician if you notice a discharge from your ear. Also, contact your physician if the pain or itching does not go away, or if it gets worse.
