Common uses
Ammonium Lactate is an emollient used to treat dry, scaly skin and to relieve the itching that occurs with this condition.
Prior to Use
Let your physician or pharmacist know about any other medications -- prescription or over-the-counter -- that you are using. Inform your physician of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. If you have questions or concerns about Ammonium Lactate, be sure to let your physician or pharmacist know.
Instructions for Use
Follow your physician's instructions for taking Ammonium Lactate. Shake well before using a dose. Wash and completely dry the affected area. Gently and thoroughly rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands immediately after using Ammonium Lactate, unless your hands are part of the treated area. Store Ammonium Lactate at room temperature from 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Should you skip or forget a dose of Ammonium Lactate, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, omit the skipped dose and continue to follow your original dosing schedule.
Warnings
Do not use Ammonium Lactate if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. Do not get Ammonium Lactate in your eyes or on the inside of your nose and mouth. Use caution if applying Ammonium Lactate to your face, since your face may be more likely to be irritated by Ammonium Lactate. Ammonium Lactate may cause increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Ammonium Lactate. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. Women, if you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your physician the benefits and risks of using Ammonium Lactate during pregnancy. The effects of Ammonium Lactate on breast milk is not known. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Ammonium Lactate, consult your pharmacist or physician to discuss the risks to your baby.
Potential Side Effects
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include mild redness, stinging, peeling, itching, rash, or burning when the medicine is applied, especially to broken or irritated skin. Consult your physician if they do not go away or if they bring you difficulties. Let your physician, pharmacist, or nurse know if you experience any side-effects not listed here.
Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.
In Case of Overdose
Contact a poison control center or visit an emergency room immediately, if you think you have overdosed. Ammonium Lactate may be harmful if swallowed.
Additional information
If your symptoms do not improve and consult your physician if they worsen. Do not let anyone else use Ammonium Lactate. Do not take Ammonium Lactate to treat health conditions other than what it was prescribed for. Store this and all medication away from the reach of children. If using Ammonium Lactate for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
